Region: Fukuoka
Fukuoka Prefecture is located on the Kyushu Island, a place known as “The Island of Shochu”. In particular, Fukuoka is situated in the northern part of Kyushu, where they tend to grow and brew shochu with barley. In comparison to Honshu island, Kyushu has a much warmer and more mild climate, which is ideal for shochu brewing. Similar to wine production, soil quality is very important for shochu production. Kyushu has been long known for its exceptional water quality, yielding high quality agricultural products, and in turn, great shochu.
