Region: Miyagi
Miyagi prefecture is situated on the north east coast of Honshu island. The region is known for its abundance of natural beauty, fisheries and agriculture. Its capital, Sendai, was founded by the famous one-eyed samurai Date Masamune in the Edo period. Miyagi’s main attraction is a group of 260 islands covered in palm trees in Matsushima Bay. This place, known as Matsushima, is one of the “Three Views of Japan”, a list of Japan’s three best scenic sights. Out of all sake brewed in Miyagi, 70% is designated as tokutei meishoshu, or what is considered premium sake by Japanese law. There are nearly 30 sake breweries in Japan, most of which focus on making dry and delicate sake using melted snow water. All Regions »
