Brewery: Nanbu Bijin
Nanbu Bijin, or “Southern Beauty”, is a brewery ironically located in the northern tip of Japan in the Iwate prefecture. This small snow town is blessed with natural underground water reserves, a lake and natural parks. The name “Southern Beauty”, represents the brewery’s goal of making clean and beautiful sake, without the use of any artificial ingredients, preservatives or added sugars. Nanbu Bijin was one of three main sake breweries featured in the 2016 documentary film Kampai! For the Love of Sake. It showed how sake makers are more focused on appealing to a young audience and their evolving tastes. The film also depicted the effect of the 2011 earthquake on Nanbu Bijin and showed how the brewery overcame the disaster. Brewery Name: Nanbu Bijin Region: Iwate Est: 1902 All Breweries »
