Region: Yamagata

Yamagata prefecture, located in the northern region of Honshu island, is known for its famous mountains, historical temples and hot springs. The prefecture’s holy sites are a common destination for those looking for a tranquil place to reflect. Yamagata is known for its agricultural products, especially its world renowned cherries, which often sell for $30 USD or more. The prefecture is receiving more attention for sake brewing due to its use of good sake rice harvested in the Shonai plain. There are nearly 60 sake breweries in Yamagata, most of which employ all local workers. Yamagata is known for rich, flavorful and dry sake. All Regions »
